Rapid Redux has Citation in his sights

Horseracing Betting Lines

12/12/2011 - Laurel, MD (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Five-year-old Rapid Redux, winner of 20 straight starts, has another opportunity on Tuesday to enter the record book. That's when the Robert Cole-owned gelding goes after his 19th victory of the year.

The modern mark of 19 wins in a single calendar year is currently held by Citation and early 20th century horse Roseben. Citation matched Roseben's record in 1948, the same year he won the Triple Crown.

"Citation is one of the all-time greats, just to be mentioned in the same sentence is unbelievable," Cole said. "The Citation record has stood for more than 60 years so I would like to get a part of that and possibly break it before the end of the month. That record might be more impressive, not that the consecutive record isn't, because how a horse can win 19 races in one calendar year is like going to another galaxy on a space ship. It is beyond imagination."

Rapid Redux, trained by David Wells, has been made the overwhelming 3-5 favorite for the $17,000 starter allowance. The 1 1/16-mile race on the main track at Laurel Park has attracted seven horses with the favorite drawing the rail.

"It is typical about what we have been running against," said Cole. "We have to go out and win one more. It is not going to last forever. We just hope Tuesday isn't our day to get beat. I know it can happen at any time."

Jockey J.D. Acosta will again have the mount aboard Rapid Redux, an assignment he has already drawn six times during the gelding's win streak.

"We have to go with the game plan which is going to the lead," said Acosta. "I am grateful to have the chance to ride. This is something the big name jockeys get to do and I am really happy to have the opportunity."

In his 18 starts this year, all victories of course, Rapid Redux has earned $202,894. In his 40 race career the five-year-old has 26 wins and $342,229.

Here is the field for Laurel's sixth race on Tuesday in post order: Rapid Redux, J.D. Acosta, 3-5; Awesome Rhythm, Abel Castellano, 6-1; Derwins Prospector, Kevin Navarro, 30-1; No Brakes, Xavier Perez, 5-1; Shamroge, Ricardo Chiappe, 8-1; First Nite, Erick Rodriguez, 10-1; Zosogood, Hector Ramos, 12-1.

Post-time will be 2:56 p.m. (et).

Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl Odds

Will he or won't he?  Now that the Dallas Cowboys have a new head coach in Wade Phillips, the big question will be: Does Terrell Owens stay with the team.

Jerry Jones continues to suggest that Terrell Owens will remain with the team.

"I've said that he's back, he's here, he's under contract," Jones said. "In the interviews I've just been through (to hire a new coach), it was very clear to me how highly he's thought of and how much of an impact he had on our offensive success."

Just to be sure though, Terrell Owens cleared out his locker and removed his name plate.

Terrell Owens was among the Cowboys most productive players this past season, catching 85 passes for 1,180 yards and a league-best 13 touchdowns.

But T.O. is due a $3 million roster bonus in June, then a $5 million salary this season. Cutting him before then would save a lot of money and headaches.

Aside from the questions surrounding Terrell Owens, the oddsmakers at MySportsbook.com have concerns over starting quarterback Tony Romo's state of mind and whether he will remain a starting quarterback.  It is also not known how players will adjust to new head coach, Wade Phillips.

Here are the football odds as seen at MySportsbook.com and subject to change after February 10, 2007 if not locked in prior to that date.
